FC Barcelona have registered Marc Bernal in La Liga as a first-team player, meaning he will no longer hold a reserve team licence.

The 18-year-old’s registration in La Liga was completed late on transfer deadline day, with the loan departure of Hector Fort clearing the way for the young midfielder to be given a first-team licence.

What shirt number will Marc Bernal wear?

As a result, Bernal must change from the No. 28 shirt he wore last season before suffering a serious knee injury.

At present, the teenager does not have an assigned number on La Liga’s website, and in the domestic competition, only numbers between ‘1’ and ‘25’ are permitted.

This leaves the young player from La Masia with four available options for his new first-team number.

Indeed, Bernal can choose one from 2, 12, 19, or 22 as his new shirt number at Barcelona after his first-team promotion.

The #2 shirt has been vacant since Pau Cubarsi moved to take the No. 5 shirt following Inigo Martinez’s departure during the summer.

The #19 shirt has also been without an owner since this summer, after Lamine Yamal gave it up and donned the legendary No. 10 shirt at Barça.

Summer signing Roony Bardghji was presented in front of the fans ahead of the Gamper Trophy match with the No. 19 shirt, but for the time being, he has been registered as a reserve-team player and cannot take that number.

The numbers 12 and 22 have been free since last season, and one of them could end up being Bernal’s new kit number following his registration with the senior team.

Having recovered from his ACL injury, Bernal has received the medical all-clear and is expected to be back in action after the international break against Valencia.
