With the Premier League season now completed, Chelsea are lining up their moves for the summer, with plenty of action already taking place.

They are targeting a few positions, and without doubt centre back is one of them. They already look to have missed out on the prize target of this summer, with Dean Huijsen seemingly closing in on a move to Real Madrid.

Next on their list seems to be one of their former players, Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace defender may not be held in as high a regard as Huijsen, but he’s got a lot of other qualities we need – like a lot of experience.

Speaking in quotes picked up by CaughtOffside, former Manchester United coach Mick Brown claimed that Guehi would bring a lot of things Chelsea were missing.

Former scout on Guehi as Chelsea’s Marquinhos

“Look at PSG, for example, somebody like Marquinhos. He looks like a midfielder playing at the back, he’s so composed and calm in possession,” Brown said.

“So Chelsea have looked at them, and that’s the type of player and influence they want at the back.

“They don’t have that at the moment but they’re working on it, that’s why they’re looking at people like Marc Guehi who do a similar job.”

Chelsea need trim in defence to make space for new arrival

With Mamadou Sarr signed up to arrive from Strasbourg this summer, Chelsea have a huge number of defenders on their books. As well as buying an elite option to partner Levi Colwill at the back, there also needs to be some major trimming done. Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Renato Veiga must all be available on the market to differing degrees.
