For the fourth consecutive season, Celtic Park will be packed to the rafters for Flag Day (Sunday, August 3, 2025) as the finest team in Scotland, Celtic, celebrate another league title, the 55th in the club’s history.

Ahead of Sunday’s Flag Day celebrations, the club is delighted to announce that the Maestro, Paul McStay, will return to his beloved Paradise this weekend to unfurl the flag for the champions and kick off season 2025/26.

Paul spent 16 years in the green and white, from the early 1980’s to the mid 1990’s, establishing himself as one of the finest players to have ever graced the hoops and personifying the mantra ‘faithful through and through’.

His time at Celtic saw him rack up almost 700 appearances across all competitions, an extraordinary number which makes him one of the highest appearing Celtic players of all time.

Throughout those years, Paul helped the club to eight major honours, including the iconic league and Scottish Cup double in the club’s Centenary season of 1987/88, arguably Paul’s finest season as a Celt.

In 1995, the Maestro, approaching the end of his playing career, captained Tommy Burns’ Celtic side to Scottish Cup glory, ending a six-year trophy drought and paving the way for a new era at the club.

With everyone at Celtic looking ahead to Flag Day on Sunday and the return of the Maestro to Celtic Park, Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers said: “Paul was a great player. He always gave you hope watching Celtic.

"You always felt that, in those tough times when Celtic maybe suffered a bit, he could produce that moment of magic.

"He was a brilliant player, a really humble guy and I have been fortunate enough to have met him.

“That was a real privilege and a real honour for me.  He will get an incredible reception, and it will be amazing to see him again.”
