The players that could leave Norwich during the upcoming January transfer window

Norwich City have made a solid start to the season under new manager Johannes Hoff Thorup.

The Dane was appointed over the summer following the decision to part ways with David Wagner.

The Canaries finished sixth last season, so will be targeting another run to the play-offs in a bid to gain Premier League promotion.

But a tricky summer transfer window saw the club lose the likes of Gabriel Sara and Jonathan Rowe from their first team squad, as well as Adam Idah.

Throup will be hoping that the team won’t go through similar losses in the winter window, which opens on 1 January, as it could be quite disruptive to their promotion ambitions.

Here we look at the Norwich players that could leave the club during the winter window…

Borja Sainz

Borja Sainz has made an excellent start to the new season, with his hat-trick against Derby County at the end of September proving a standout highlight.

The Spaniard has stepped up in the absence of Sara, and will prove crucial to any promotion push this year.

However, it was reported by Spanish outlet El Correo that Athletic Club are interested in signing the Norwich star.

The opportunity to move to La Liga would be difficult for Sainz to turn down, especially the Basque club which has close ties to its community.

Athletic are even competing in the Europa League this year, so the chance to compete at that level would be a big jump up on what Norwich can offer.

While it’s likely the Canaries will command a big fee in January, it still remains a possibility that the 23-year-old could still make the switch mid-season.

Josh Sargent

Another key figure in the side that could depart is Josh Sargent, who has similarly made a strong start to the campaign.

The forward is leading the line for Thorup’s side, and his goals will be crucial to the team earning another top six finish.

The US international was linked with a move away from Carrow Road in the summer, with Give Me Sport reporting that Cincinnati FC had made an offer worth $20 (£15) million for the player.

While Norwich were able to hold onto his services beyond the summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise if his form led to more speculation over his future in the January market.

Losing someone of Sargent’s quality would be a hammer blow to their campaign, but if a big enough offer arrives then it will be difficult to turn down.

It’s not out of the possibility that Sargent’s time with the Norfolk outfit comes to an end at the start of 2025.

Brad Hills

Brad Hills has come through the ranks of the Norwich academy system, but has yet to earn his major breakthrough into the senior first team squad.

He enjoyed a loan stint with Accrington Stanley last season, making 41 appearances in League Two (all stats from Fbref).

However, even with injury issues at the back for Thorup’s side, he hasn’t quite shown that he’s ready to earn a chance at Championship football.
