FC Barcelona finished their 2024-25 season last night as they played their last La Liga game at the San Mames, facing an Athletic Club team managed by their former coach, Ernesto Valverde.

The Blaugranes beat the Basque Lions with a 0-3 scoreline, and the team showed its competitive nature by keeping its foot on the accelerator till the very final match of the season, even though they had already wrapped up the La Liga title a few weeks ago and there was not much at stake in this game.

Robert Lewandowski commends the team’s efforts

Robert Lewandowski was one of the brightest players on the pitch in this match as he scored a brace that gave his side a strong lead early in the game. His two goals on the night also meant he has completed his century of goals in a Barcelona shirt, and his tally with the Catalan club now stands at 101 goals.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Polish veteran also spoke to the media after the game. Lewandowski took this opportunity to commend the efforts made by his team throughout the season:

“We knew it was the last match and we had a plan to win. In the first half we played very well and had everything under control. It’s been an almost perfect season and now let’s enjoy this moment.”

Missing out on the Pichichi

The Pole missed out on the Pichichi award despite leading the La Liga scoring charts for most part of the season. However, he was not too concerned about these individual titles:

“After the injury I needed some time to come back. As a team we’ve won titles and that’s what matters to me.”

Lastly, the Polish striker also spoke about the farewell given to the Athletic Club player De Marcos:

“A beautiful moment and on the other hand, it’s sad. Every footballer should enjoy this moment.”

There is no doubt that this has been quite a good season for Robert Lewandowski, and had he not suffered the unfortunate injury at the last phase of the season, he could well have won the Pichichi. However, as he himself commented, the titles won by his team would mean so much more to him and hopefully, he will continue winning such titles in the future as well.
