Tesco has chosen to apologise to Welsh customers, after an England Lucozade promotion was spotted in a Wales store just weeks before Euro 2025 is set to get underway.

There was outrage in Wales this week as a Tesco store in Western Avenue, Cardiff, put up a Lucozade display in the front entrance.

It wasn’t the display itself that caused customers to become upset but rather the nation that the archway represented.

Despite Wales qualifying for their first major tournament in history, England’s women were covered on the display which read: “Win and meet the Lionesses”.

The Lucozade promotion offers customers the chance to not only meet the Lionesses at Euro 2025, but also the opportunity to win an England shirt.

In a statement following the angry response, Tesco said: “We’re sorry this happened. We wish both the Welsh and English teams the best of luck in the upcoming Euros and know that many of our colleagues and customers will be proudly supporting their home nations throughout the tournament.”

The spokesperson admitted that the display was put up ‘by mistake’ after it appeared in another store in Wales. Both stores have since taken the display down.

More controversy for Wales

Wales women should be celebrating qualifying for their first-ever major tournament this summer but instead, controversy seems to be following the team wherever they go.

Earlier this month, SheKicks reported that Wales were having problems with their new kit that was released specifically for Euro 2025. Fans weren’t able to customise the mint-green kit which again, left Wales supporters frustrated.

Regardless of all the drama building up to the tournament, Wales will be in high spirits ahead of a historic summer for the women’s team.

According to the best UK betting sites, Wales are 50/1 to advance from the group stage and an even further long-shot to win the whole tournament at a price 250/1.

On their debut at the Euros the Dragons have been drawn in one of the toughest groups in the whole championship, with England, France and the Netherlands all in Group D.
