Chelsea are still trying to put together a squad capable of winning things – but before they’ve made any real progress, it seems as the vultures are already circling to try and pick off the few successes they have made.
Mike McGrath from the Telegraph has just put out the rather worrying story that Moises Caicedo is the subject of interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr.
Caicedo has yet to complete his second season at Stamford Bridge after joining following a protracted transfer saga in the summer of 2023 from Brighton for more than £100m. Even at that cost, he’s one of the few players bought under the Clearlake-Boehly ownership who look like decent value.
Al Nassr are perhaps the biggest name in the Saudi league, given they have Cristiano Ronaldo on the books and added Aymeric Laporte and Aston Villa from the Premier League in recent months.
McGrath’s piece says that Caicedo is on their shortlist “as they draw up potential signings for when the transfer window opens.”
He adds that Caicedo “would cost upwards of £100m,” which is surely an understatement. We would need to make a significant profit on the Ecuador star to make an offer even worth considering. After a huge spend on buying him, we’ve got 6 more years of his contract left to run, and selling him now would make little sense.

Chelsea fans would be very unhappy about this move even being considered. Caicedo is one of the few success stories from these sporting directors, and losing him before we’ve even managed to build a competent team around him would be maddening.
It will be an interesting test of the intentions of this ownership if Al Nassr do make a crazy offer that would allow us to make a major profit on the former Brighton man.
