Newcastle United will lock horns with Manchester United at Old Trafford this Wednesday night as they try to secure a positive result in the EFL Cup. The Magpies had to settle for a 2-2 draw away at Wolverhampton Wanderers recently, so they would be eager to get back to winning ways in this cup game.
Eddie Howe will set his players up in a 4-3-3 formation and could name a strong team for this game. Matt Targett and Joe Willock are both expected to play from the start of this contest while Sean Longstaff and Dan Burn drop to the bench.
Defence
Nick Pope will function in goal for the Magpies after shipping in a couple of goals in his last outing. Fabian Schar will play alongside Jamaal Lascelles at the centre of Man United’s backline as they hope to keep things solid at the back throughout the 90 minutes.
Tino Livramento could get a chance to shine as the right-back while Matt Targett hopes to catch the eye as the left-back. Both of them will get the license to get forward and express themselves in the opponent’s half.
Paul Dummett, Dan Burn and Emil Krafth will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield
Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock will make up Newcastle’s midfield as they look to establish their dominance over the opposition at the centre of the park. Howe will ask all three of them to move the ball and engineer some inviting chances in the opponent’s half.
Sean Longstaff and Matt Ritchie will have to be content with a spot on the bench as they look to influence the game in the second 45 minutes if Howe opts to call upon their services.
Attack
Anthony Gordon will try to prove his worth on the left flank while Miguel Almiron looks to give a good account of himself as the right-sided wide player.
Callum Wilson will lead the line for the Tyneside club in the final third. The English forward would have to carry most of his team’s goal-scoring burden up top.
Alexander Isak will be sidelined for this game as he continues to recover from a groin injury.
