Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo by submitting an improved offer to Brentford for the forward.
Boosting the team’s goal output was Ruben Amorim’s top priority heading into the summer and while the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves marks a strong start, United’s ambitions don’t end there, with a deal for Mbeumo also in progress.
Mbeumo enjoyed the most prolific season of his career in 2024/25, plundering 20 Premier League goals and providing an additional six assists. Only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak netted more goals than the Brentford man.
Despite significant interest in his signature, Mbeumo is understood to be solely focused on a move to United. There had been speculation that Tottenham Hotspur – encouraged by the appointment of Thomas Frank from Brentford – were considering hijacking the deal, but those rumours have since gone quiet.
United had an opening bid worth £45m plus £10m in bonuses turned down by the Bees a few weeks ago.
Brentford are believed to value the Cameroonian at £60m. Over the past few days, it has been reported that United are getting closer to striking an agreement with Brentford.
Now, talkSPORT journalists Alex Crook and Ben Jacobs have issued a significant update on the situation.
According to Crook and Jacobs, United have improved their offer for Mbeumo and it’s a total package in excess of £60m.
talkSPORT further reveal, “Manchester United have improved their offer to Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo to a package worth in excess of £60m, talkSPORT understands.”
“Talks have accelerated in the past 24 hours and will continue this week. Mbeumo has always made it clear to the Bees his preference is to join United over reuniting with Thomas Frank at Tottenham.”
“United have already agreed personal terms with Mbuemo on a contract worth around £250,000-a-week.”
It’s looking increasingly likely that Mbeumo will be on his way to Old Trafford, with talkSPORT noting that Tottenham have now shifted their focus to Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.
