Swindon Town may have unearthed a gem in Jake Tabor, who joins the Robins from Amersham Town after scoring 127 goals in 91 appearances.

Swindon Town took a punt on Amersham Town striker Jake Tabor this summer, after the striker scored 127 goals in 91 appearances for the Magpies in step five of non-league.

Many EFL clubs were on alert this summer, as Tabor officially departed the Buckinghamshire club after two stunning seasons in front of goal, playing in the Combined Counties League Premier Division North and Combined Counties League Division One.

Plenty of clubs were urged by supporters to take a punt on the striker via social media, as the recent success of Wycombe Wanderers striker Richard Kone proved that Tabor could also be capable of making the step-up to the EFL, thanks to his scoring record.

Everyone loves a story of a non-league gem making their way into the professional scene, and going on to be a huge success, such as Jamie Vardy and Charlie Austin. The 22-year-old now has the chance to add his name to that elite list.

Swindon were the club lucky enough to win the race for Tabor's signature, and after an electric start to life with the Robins in pre-season, Ian Holloway's punt could land his side League One football next term.

Step five of non-league football is proving to be a breeding ground for ridiculously talented goalscorers, with Tabor the second player along with the aforementioned Kone to make the step-up in the past 18 months.

It was just a matter of time before a professional club came knocking for the Amersham talisman, as his record of 127 goals in 91 appearances for the club simply couldn't go unnoticed.

Tabor was first scouted by Wycombe in 2023, playing in a trial match for the Chairboys. However, the forward revealed that he was played as a wing-back, and was told that he wasn't up to the standard they were looking for.

Despite this setback, the 22-year-old continued to smash in goals, and was rewarded in the summer after leaving Amersham with his first professional contract at Swindon, signing on until 2027.

Swindon Town gamble could result in League One football next season

The job Holloway did when he came in last season was nothing short of a miracle, as he steered the Robins away from the relegation zone, and achieved a respectable mid-table finish, after a poor start to the campaign.

Town have been busy already in the transfer window, but Tabor is arguably the most exciting addition for supporters, especially after an electric start to life in a red shirt in pre-season, with three goals in his first two matches.

This low-risk gamble that Holloway and Swindon have taken could be an absolute game-changer for the club and the player, if Tabor continues his stunning form in front of goal in League Two next season.

If the goals continue to flow for the youngster, then the sky truly is the limit for this exciting partnership.

Not only would it put Tabor on the map for a big-money move, but it could see the Wiltshire club finally make the step back up to League One.
