Lyon pull off dramatic PSG win

Scorer: Diani 81′, Dumornay 85′, Majri 86′; Katoto 44′, 48′

Lyon proved why they are historically the best in this competition with a stunning 3-2 win over rivals Paris Saint-Germain.

The hosts dominated the first half but weren’t too convincing. Naturally, the visitors broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time with their first shot on target.

A wide open Marie-Antoinette Katoto poked home at the back post after Ellie Carpenter missed an attempted clearance.

PSG’s star striker then shockingly doubled the lead minutes after the restart after pouncing on a loose ball in the box. Lyon, while stunned, were not down and out.

Pure drama was delivered in the final 10 minutes as the hosts struck three times in front of a roaring crowd to come out on top and crush PSG’s hearts.

Kadidiatou Diani scored a low drive before Melchie Dumornay rifled home the equaliser into the top corner.

Then in the blink of an eye, Amel Majri spun and struck a slow roller to win it and PSG were left with their heads in their hands.

Lyon will take a slim lead to Paris for the second-leg, but it’s not over and done just yet between these two!

Chelsea hand Barça first home loss in five years

Scorer: Cuthbert 40′

The Blues travelled to Catalunya rekindling their recent rivalry with the Blaugrana. A defensive clinic was enough to beat Barcelona 1-0 in the first leg of their Women’s Champions League semi-final.

Barcelona had beaten Chelsea 4-0 in the 2021 final of this competition whilst at the same stage last year the Spanish side won 2-1 on aggregate over two legs.

Lauren James returned to the Blues starting XI after missing their WSL win over Aston Villa in midweek whilst the hosts had Englishwoman Keira Walsh in midfield.

It was Barça who probed most vociferously in the opening exchanges with Selma Paralluelo and Caroline Graham Hansen both having attempts on goal.

But it was the English side who took the lead with five minutes of the first half remaining as Erin Cuthbert struck a stunning effort from the edge of the area.

Into the second half and almost immediately Barcelona thought they had a chance to equalise but an initial penalty decision was overturned by VAR.

Alexia Putellas was introduced on the hour mark to try and change the game for the hosts but it was Paralluelo who had the best chance late on.

The Spain striker ghosted into the back post but her volley was scuffed well wide.

Putellas then had the very best chance of the kick with the very final kick but her half-volley from six yards went agonisingly wide.
