Marti Cifuentes’ side face a trip to Charlton Athletic next but may be without one of their standout attackers.

Leicester City have faced an uphill challenge this summer in the form of keeping their current forwards at the King Power Stadium.

Bilal El Khannouss has been constantly linked with sides such as Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, and now it looks like Fatawu could be on the move.

According to talkSPORT, Sunderland have made an opening bid for the 21-year-old.

The move would be the Black Cats’ 13th of the summer window, having already acquired the likes of Granit Xhaka and Simon Adingra.

Regis Le Bris and Co. have reportedly lodged an offer of £28 million for Fatawu, who still has four years remaining on his deal with Leicester.

The young forward initially joined the Foxes in 2023 on loan from Sporting Lisbon, before making the move permanent a year later.

Sunderland kicked off their return to the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over West Ham United at home and are looking to add Fatawu to their attack to enhance their survival bid.

The deal would take Sunderland's summer spending past the £160million mark and represent Leicester’s most significant sale of the window.

Fatawu has made 58 appearances for Leicester, scoring seven goals and adding 15 assists.

Leicester City may struggle to turn down Sunderland’s Abdul Fatawu approach

It will be a major blow for the Foxes if Sunderland do acquire Fatawu, as he is one of their standout operators and would likely cause endless problems for Championship defences across the 2024/25 campaign.

However, the Black Cats’ offer of £28 million is substantial and would help Leicester City ease any financial concerns relegation to the second-tier has brought forward.

Sunderland looked exciting during their 3-0 victory over West Ham United and given their other transfer business, represents an exciting project for the 21-year-old to join.
