It seems Sunderland and Burnley will miss out on Daniel Cummings.
Sunderland and Burnley are set to miss out on Celtic's Daniel Cummings, with West Ham United reportedly likely to sign him on a pre-contract offer.
That is according to Fraser Fletcher, who has detailed this latest report in a post on X (Formerly Twitter).
Earlier in the season, Football Insider revealed that a number of teams were scouting the striker ahead of a possible pre-contract offer and that those from the second tier included Burnley and Sunderland. However, the most recent update involved Pompey, with Anthony Joseph stating that Mousinho was "keen to make him part of the first team squad".
Cummings had also attracted interest from abroad, with the likes of Bologna, Club Brugge and RB Salzburg all monitoring his situation.
Unfortunately, for this host of clubs, it now seems that they will miss out on the young forward with Graham Potter's Hammers now leading the race for his signature.
The 18-year-old has been a major talking point throughout this transfer window, and last week it appeared he would be staying in Glasgow after being offered a new contract at Celtic Park.
However, a Premier League team came calling as West Ham initially wanted to sign him this window and offered Brendan Rodgers' side £500,000 for his services. That was rejected and deadline day's second bid of just under £1 million has also been rebuffed.
While the intention was to sign him this month, it now seems that they will instead have to wait until the summer to get him on a pre-contract deal. According to TeamTalk, the player has already committed to the move and is expected to officially sign with West Ham once the club presents the contract.
Celtic are powerless to prevent the move and the allure of playing in the Premier League has seemingly proved too tempting for Cummings to turn down.
While it was always going to prove difficult to sign such an in-demand player, the Clarets and the Black Cats will be disappointed to see Cummings sign elsewhere.
His level of scoring at youth level is quite remarkable. Playing in the Lowland League for Celtic's B side, the youngster has managed to net 33 goals in 48 games and was recently awarded his first-team debut against Aston Villa in the Champions League.
This sort of signing for either side would have been ideal with both placing a high priority on developing younger players in recent years.
