It’s already been a busy transfer period for Stuttgart with the departures of Woo-yeong Jeong and Luca Pfeiffer for a combined €4.35m while El Bilal Touré and Fabian Rieder have returned to their parent clubs following loan spells, and now VfB are working on new arrivals.

As reported by Kicker, Stuttgart are working on a deal to sign French defender Lorenz Assignon (24). The Bundesliga side are ‘largely in agreement with the player’ but are yet to find an agreement with Rennes, who are demanding around €12m for the right-back.

After finishing runners-up to Bayer Leverkusen in the 2023/24 season, Stuttgart finished a lowly ninth this season but still managed to secure a European place after beating Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB Pokal. Their involvement in Europe in the 2025/26 season will give the Swabian side a financial boost which can be reinvested back into the squad.
