Strange that – Value is relative

Can a footballer be worth 150 million pounds?
I hear that a certain Newcastle United player is valued at that.
Is it relevant? Is it true?
Well, in my job I earn 50k a year, but my employers are not desperate to hold on to me as they know that they can easily replace me and could do so and save money.
However, that would be with a far inferior replacement, which is why I still have a job.
Strange that. Value is relative.
I was lucky in the ballot this week for the Arsenal match but still had to part with significant money, £39 for a seat in the level 7 family enclosure.
I dare not look at the prices elsewhere, as I have what seems little to no chance of getting a ticket there.
Earlier this week I had a conversation with my non-imaginary mate who is a Liverpool supporting football fan.
He is an LFC member and gets to go on average to at least two games a season with his son, after applying for all games at Anfield.
The price for his tickets in similar seats to me were more than I have paid but it is Liverpool.
Thirty odd years ago none of the above was relevant. Money was irrelevant.
Artists like the Chapman brothers were taking huge sums from Conservative donors for their artwork while the KLF burnt a million pounds and Alan Shearer was signing for us for a world record fee.
Back in the Eighties, Martin Amis wrote a novel entitled ‘Money’ with a subtitle of ‘Suicide Note’.
