It was late drama at New Douglas Park on Wednesday evening as Celtic FC Women ran out 2-1 winners over Heart.

After falling behind in the opening 45 minutes, the Ghirls battled back to draw the game level with a superb strike from Amy Gallacher.

With the game entering the closing stages, up stepped Maria McAneny to seal all three points in stoppage time.

Following ten days without a fixture, the Hoops were back in action as they return to Hamilton on Wednesday.

Taking on Hearts, the Celts were aiming to make it back-to-back wins following a difficult period in the season.

The Ghirls started the match strong, pushing forward and pressing Hearts as they looked to play out from the back.

Amy Gallacher was the first player to try her luck with a shot, picking up the ball on the edge. But she couldn’t hit the target.

It was sign of things to come, with Celtic looking to cut the visitors open at the back, and arguably their best chance of the half fell the way of Bruna Lourenco.

A free kick sent deep into the box, fell the way of the centre-back, who struck a powerful effort towards goal.

But the Portuguese defender was unfortunate not to find the net, hitting the underside of the crossbar, before the ball was cleared away.

The Celts had to remain switched on at the back too though, with the away side still offering a threat going forward.

Kelsey Daugherty reacted well to the first shot faced of the half, tipping the ball over the crossbar.

Late into the half, Emma Lawton almost had an opening to grab the first goal of the game with a volley on the edge. But it was comfortably taken by the keeper.

As the game headed towards the break, it was the visitors though who would strike first just before the half time whistle.

A cross into the box was diverting into the back of the Celtic net, which saw the Hoops fall behind at the half.

Heading into the second half, the Celts didn’t let their heads drop and found themselves level on 52 minutes.

A superb, volleyed finish from Amy Gallacher found the far top corner of the net, firing the Hoops level with over half an hour left to play.

The Celts piled on the pressure in search of a winner, with Elena Sadiku introducing changes to the side.

Abi Harrison looked to make an instant impact off the bench, having a shot from distance. But she couldn’t find the target.

With the game heading towards the final few moments, it looked as though both teams would be taking home a share of the spoils.

However, with two minutes of additional time played, up stepped Maria McAneny, to produce a finish on her right foot, firing the ball into the bottom corner.

It was a superb way for the Hoops to seal all three points, grabbing a last gasp winner in dramatic style.

The Ghirls will look to build upon that result and performance as they travel to face Glasgow City at Petershill Park on Sunday afternoon.
