“We do not give up despite having 12 injured, something that is very rare… It has been resolved with a good attitude from the collective. I’ve never seen a team shoot 40 times on goal like we did today. We have covered so many casualties with an extraordinary effort. If we had done it in more games, the season would have been better.”

The victory means that Real Madrid move to within four points of Barcelona, who can still win La Liga on Thursday with a victory at Espanyol. But until it is mathematically possible, Ancelotti is not giving up the fight.

“We believe in doing our thing, in winning what is left and seeing what happens. They have to lose, but anything can happen. We are still in the fight.”

Ancelotti reflects on Real Madrid spell ahead of final two matches in charge

The match against Mallorca was Ancelotti’s penultimate in charge of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. He spoke on the experience, and also reflected on his two tenures at the helm.

“Whenever I sit on the bench at the Bernabéu it has been special, like all of them. But I leave with the tranquillity and serenity of having done what I have been able to do, that my teams try to win until the last minute, as we do at Real Madrid.”
