West Bromwich Albion have come flying out the blocks in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with the West Midlands outfit among the leading pack after nine matches of the season.

The Baggies have won five of their opening fixtures so far, as well as drawing two and losing two, as Carlos Corberan continues to work his magic at the Hawthorns with the talents at his disposal.

The Black Country outfit have a number of top talents at their disposal, with their key performers proving their worth in a start to the campaign which has seen the club enter the conversation as potential promotion candidates.

With that in mind, we caught up with Football League World’s Albion fan pundit Callum Burgess to discuss which stars could feasibly go on to perform in the Premier League in the future.

Tom Fellows tipped for top flight success after bright start to West Bromwich Albion career

For all the talent that Corberan has brought into the club of late, it has been academy graduate Tom Fellows that has made one of the biggest impacts at Albion of late.

After making his major breakthrough in the previous campaign, the 21-year-old continues to impress on the flanks for the Baggies, and has proven himself to be a vital cog in his side’s attacking output as he continues to develop.

Although he is yet to find the net himself so far in 2024/25, the young star has laid on five goals for his teammates, with his synergy with frontman Josh Maja reaping rewards time and time again.

His early season performances did not go unnoticed, with Southampton and Ipswich Town said to be interested in his services late on in the summer transfer window, and Burgess believes it is only a matter of time before the Albion man is making a name for himself one division higher.

When asked which players should be playing at a higher level, the Albion fan said: “The obvious choice would of course be Tom Fellows, who had Premier League interest over the summer, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did get a shot at the Premier League over the next few seasons.

“Whether it is with the likes of Southampton or Ipswich who did have interest in him over the summer, or I do think he could go and get a move to someone along the lines of Newcastle, where he could be a good squad option, where they would buy him for his potential and he would grow into a consistent performer for them.”

Alex Mowatt, Premier League prediction issued

While Fellows has been tearing it up on the flanks, Albion’s trusted midfield dynamo Alex Mowatt has continued to thrive in his role in the Baggies’ engine room.

With three goals in his first nine matches of the season, the former Leeds United man is continuing to prove his worth to this Baggies side, with Portsmouth feeling his wrath last month as he notched a brace against the newly-promoted side.

With his eye for goal and ability to keep possession ticking over with his quality technique on the ball, the 29-year-old is as indispensable as they come within Corberan’s current setup, and Burgess believes he has all the credentials to be picked up by a top flight side if desired, despite nearing the age of 30.

Callum added: “I also think Alex Mowatt is someone who could join a team in the bottom-half of the table, and he would be that steady sort of central midfielder who could do quite a good job for many teams, I would think.

“Maybe at one of the teams that got promoted last season; so Leicester, Ipswich or Southampton, I think potentially alongside Sam Morsy at Ipswich, I think that could be a good midfield partnership.

“If they do end up getting relegated, straight away they have got one of the best midfielder partnerships in the Championship.

“So my two picks would be Alex Mowatt and Tom Fellows, who could both do a good job in a bottom-half Premier League side.”
