In recent days, speculation surrounding the future of Barcelona midfield star Fermin Lopez has intensified, with Manchester United reportedly showing interest in the 22-year-old.

Given Barça’s financial situation and the urgent need to register new signings, it’s been suggested that a significant sale could be on the cards this summer, and Fermin’s name has surfaced as a potential candidate.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, any notion of Fermin leaving the club has been categorically dismissed by head coach Hansi Flick.

The German tactician holds the El Campillo native in extremely high regard, not only for his character and professionalism but also for his impressive output, particularly given his limited starts.

Fermin was not an undisputed starter last season, starting just 19 of the 46 matches he played. Yet his impact was undeniable. Across all competitions, as per the stats from Transfermarkt, he recorded 8 goals and 10 assists in 2,039 minutes of action.

His goals often came in high-stakes moments. He netted a stoppage-time strike against Espanyol that mathematically clinched Barça’s La Liga title and scored the decisive goal in a 2–1 win over Valladolid.

As a creator, Fermin also shone brightly. He registered key assists in major fixtures, including a brace against Bayern Munich in a 4–1 win at home, as well as contributions against Betis, Girona, Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg, and Athletic Club on the final day of the league campaign.

Flick was so impressed that, upon reading early transfer rumors, as per the report from MD, he personally approached Fermin and asked him to stay. The midfielder responded with reassurance: he has no intention of leaving the club.

At just 22 years old, the €50 million-rated Spanish midfielder already boasts an impressive trophy haul, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona, as well as a European Championship and Olympic Gold with Spain.

For a coach like Flick, who values versatility, output, and attitude, Fermin is more than just a squad player; he is a cornerstone of the project moving forward.

The bottom line is that it is pretty clear Fermin is not going anywhere this summer. Flick will not entertain a sale, and that is exactly how it should be.
