According to a report from media outlet Fichajes football, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte, due to the inconsistencies of current attacking midfielder James Maddison. Buonanotte is a Brighton and Hove Albion player, who is currently on a season long loan at newly promoted side Leicester City.

So far this season, Buonanotte has played 10 Premier League games for Leicester, starting eight of those, including against Spurs, and has scored three goals as well as putting up two assists, with five big chances created. This is also in a reactive side Leicester side that spend long periods of time without the ball.

The midfielder turns 20 next month, and made his debut for the Argentina senior team at just 18 years old in June of last year. He was in the World and South American champions senior squad for CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia last month.

Signed from Rosario Central in January of last year, Buonanotte is one of a number of South American players that Brighton have signed in recent years, with the likes of Moises Caicedo and compatriot Alexis Mac Allister amongst the most successful players signed from the continent.

In terms of play style, the teenager is a small, dynamic, left footed number ten profile. His 1.8 dribbles per game in the Premier League this season has him above the likes of Morgan Rogers, Luis Diaz, and Cole Palmer, amongst other high profile names in the league.

He also creates 1.7 chances per game, so as well as his dynamism, he is an intelligent midfielder, with an eye for a pass. Brighton’s recruitment is so often so good, so the fact they brought him in is a huge tick in the box as it is.

A potential issue is that Buonanotte has a contract with the South Coast side until 2028, so there is no immediate concern of his deal running down. That too, and Tony Bloom is known as a tough negotiator, who will not back down in negotiations. Talks between him and Daniel Levy might not finish until Buonanotte has retired from playing football.

Plenty of fans have been critical of Maddison of late, and have suggested that Spurs do need another midfielder, to go along with Dejan Kulusevski and the pivot player. The progress of Buonanotte and potential interest in the player is certainly one to keep an eye on over the coming months.
