Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the permanent signing of Kevin Danso from RC Lens in a deal worth up to £21 million.

Danso made 15 appearances for Spurs after arriving in January, playing a role in their Europa League triumph and featuring as a substitute in the final against Manchester United in Bilbao.

Injuries restricted the 26-year-old’s involvement, but manager Ange Postecoglou remains convinced of his long-term value.

The transfer was triggered by an obligation to buy, with Tottenham moving swiftly to secure the centre-back ahead of the new season.

The announcement came alongside a raft of summer exits, as Spurs released five senior players from the squad.

Veteran goalkeeper Fraser Forster leaves after three years at the club, having made 34 appearances in all competitions.

The 37-year-old featured 13 times last season, including four Europa League matches during the group stage campaign.

Sergio Reguilon has also departed after a five-year spell that included loan moves to Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Brentford.

The Spanish left-back registered 73 appearances and two goals for Spurs, but made only six outings in the most recent campaign.

Academy graduate Alfie Whiteman exits the club after making just one senior appearance, which came in a 2020 Europa League win over Ludogorets.

The goalkeeper also had loan spells at Swedish club Degerfors IF, where he helped them avoid relegation in consecutive seasons.

Timo Werner will return to RB Leipzig after an 18-month loan that yielded just three goals from 41 appearances.

The German forward had not featured since suffering a hamstring injury in February.

Tottenham has also confirmed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s loan move to Marseille has been made permanent, with the fee reportedly around £17 million.

The Danish midfielder made over 150 appearances for Spurs before heading to Ligue 1 in search of regular football.

Meanwhile, the club have not yet made a decision on Mathys Tel, whose loan spell expires at the end of June.

Bayern Munich are open to selling the French forward for around £45 million, but no agreement has been reached.

Further squad updates are expected in the coming weeks as Postecoglou continues to reshape his squad.
