Sporting San Miguelito extends unbeaten start against Diriangén

PENONOMÉ, Panama – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with Sporting San Miguelito securing a 2-1 win against Cacique Diriangén FC in Group B on Wednesday at Estadio Universitario in Penonomé, Panama.
Sporting San Miguelito took an early lead in the 2’ after Ángel Valencia converted from the penalty spot.
Marcos De León pulled off a key double save in the 11’ to preserve the lead for the hosts, first stopping a long-range shot from Diriangén’s Luis Coronel before denying Anyelo Velásquez inside the box.
Ramses De León extended Sporting’s lead in the 22’, capping off a great passing sequence with a powerful first-time left footed hit from inside the box. Kevin Galván provided the assist on the play.
The Panamanian side had two more defensive interventions before the half to keep the visitors scoreless. First, Galván cleared a ball off the line in the 25’, followed by De León saving an attempt from Matías Galvaliz in the 37’.
Junior Arteaga shortened the deficit for Diriangén in the 62’, with a finish to the near post to capitalize on a through ball from Galvaliz.
The Nicaraguan side was forced to complete the match a man down after Alan Schönfeld was showed a second yellow card in the 70’.
Arteaga nearly equalized for Diriangén in the 74’ with a spectacular free-kick attempt that hit the woodwork.
Anthony Stewart nearly added a third for San Miguelito in the 90’+5’, but his shot from the right side of the box was just wide of the left post.
Both sides will continue their respective campaigns next week as Cacique Diriangén FC visits Real España on Wednesday, while Sporting San Miguelito hosts Herediano on Thursday.
