Jan Bednarek spoke about the difference between Ivan Juric and former Southampton manager Russell Martin.
A month ago, Southampton hired Ivan Juric to replace former manager Russell Martin. From the beginning, it was clear that Juric's Saints tenure would be compared using Russell Martin's results.
Understandably, the Croatian was tasked with steering Southampton's sinking Premier League ship. While most of the blame came towards Russell, he was a big reason why the Saints were playing the Premier League in the first place.
After all, the latter successfully achieved promotion in his debut season.
Thus, many Southampton fans still respect Russell Martin for his contributions. If Juric wants the same backing, he must find a winning way in the Premier League.
So far, Juric has overseen a string of five consecutive Premier League defeats. The results are very similar to Martin's but the match approach has certainly changed.
Further, Southampton star Jan Bednarek also agrees with this statement.
Recently, Jan Bednarek opened up about working under Ivan Juric. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Daily Echo quoted Bednarek: "He always reacts and there are no hard feelings. He always does the best thing for the team. But I think that he is a good person and a good manager."
Recalling the Russell Martin era, there were often complaints about a passive approach to the game. Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier also believed that Martin's rigidness in a similar gameplan often held the Saints back.
On the contrary, Juric learns from his mistakes and even corrects them during the game. Notably, he improved his substitute choices against Nottingham Forest after getting it wrong against Manchester United.
Evidently, the difference in performance was quite visible in both matches.
Talking about Russell, he mostly preferred his previous Championship strategies in the Premier League. Unfortunately, it didn't work out as expected.
Still, he achieved a lot in a short spell at Southampton. Let's hope, Juric builds on Martin's achievements and ensures the club's Premier League status beyond this season.
