Southampton sign Hibernian midfielder McAlonie | OneFootball

Southampton have completed the signing of Hibernian midfielder Michaela McAlonie for an undisclosed fee.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this morning.

The 23-year-old joins Southampton after spending the last four years with Hibs. She was an SWPL 1 title-winner with the Leith-based club last season. McAlonie has also turned out for Hearts and Spartans in her senior playing career to date.

On the international stage, McAlonie has represented Scotland at various youth levels up to and including Under-19 level.

McAlonie signed a new contract with Hibernian back in February but the opportunity to move to Southampton was too good to turn down.

After joining The Saints, McAlonie said “I heard a lot about the team, and England was a place that I wanted to go and challenge myself – it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do since being a little girl.

“I want to enjoy it and really kick on and improve as a player, and obviously gel well with the team. I’m really excited to be involved and I can’t wait to play for the badge and play for this club.”

McAlonie is Southampton’s 12th signing of the summer transfer window.
