Having seen the loan success of former West Ham star Flynn Downes, Southampton are set to convince the Hammers again for Luis Guilherme this time.

A couple of years ago, Southampton scouted their Championship find of the season in Flynn Downes. At that time, it was one of the most spot-on signings the Saints made despite not starting their midfield chase with Downes in mind.

Fast forward to now, Downes forms Southampton's strongest Premier League midfield combination. So, this hints that recruiting for a short-term Championship stay could bring some unexpected surprises.

Especially, the loan transfers where there are far more upsides of a shrewd signing rather than a risky addition. Therefore, repeating those tricks to see where they lead isn't a bad idea at all.

In this regard, Southampton are playing with the thoughts of drawing West Ham again into a summer transfer. After all, they handed a playmaker of Downes capability and they might certainly have more of those undervalued stars who can find their feet at St. Mary's.

Guilherme can be another loan success in the making

According to a report from Alan Nixon, Hammers' wonderkid Luis Guilherme could be the next one to don the Southampton kit for second-division football.

Told you, Guilherme isn't a household Premier League name at the moment and acquiring him won't be seen as a marquee capture for the Saints. But, this is the Brazilian attacker's first taste of English football and him not making big strides isn't any potential deal-breaker, at least not now.

On top of that, Southampton's attacking ranks are pretty jumbled up which is expected to shrink as soon as the transfer window opens. Hence, the club can't go much wrong in trusting a 19-year-old to play second fiddle on the wings.
