Southampton might involve themselves in a transfer tussle with Rangers, Burnley and Ipswich Town. Russell Martin has highlighted his transfer wishes.
Russell Martin is at the helm for Southampton. Of course, there is pressure on the manager, considering the Saints are bottom of the table. However, as it stands, he is in no immediate danger of losing his job.
In fact, the Southampton owners do not place blame on Russell Martin. Instead, they think the squad is not currently strong enough, so they could meet some of his transfer demands in the January transfer window.
Russell Martin has recently hinted that he's not fully content with the support his attack receives, in the way of a lack of creativity from wide positions. Therefore, Southampton might wish to sign a winger or two in the January transfer window.
According to a report from TBR Football, Southampton are keeping tabs on Kwame Poke, the Peterborough United attacker with an impressive 10 goals and five assists in League One this season.
Kwame Poke is also of interest to Scottish giants Rangers, Burnley and Ipswich Town. The four clubs have become interested in signing the winger, although no concrete moves have been made by any club.
It is clear to see why Kwame Poke is the topic of serious interest. We can only speak from Southampton's perspective and he would make a great Saint, if he were signed.
As mentioned, it is within Southampton's best interests to sign wide playmakers. Kwame Poke is certainly within that calibre of required player. He is an excellent passer and has the versatility to play in midfield or out on the wing.
It goes without saying that the jump from League One to the Premier League is quite intense. However, Poku has shown the ability to carry a team, so he could be exactly what Southampton require in their bid to avoid relegation.
Time will tell how serious Southampton's transfer interest truly is.
