Southampton forward Ross Stewart has recently revealed what he thinks about Southampton's relegation. Alarmingly (or perhaps nobly), Stewart didn't seem too fazed. In fact, he was confident that the Saints won't need to change much to be promoted back to the Premier League next season.
If Southampton were promoted back to the Premier League for the 2026/27 season, it would be their third time in the top flight in five seasons. However, to achieve this feat, the Saints must put their heads down and get to work next season.
Ideally, fans wouldn't like to put up with playing in the Championship next season. However, this is the situation the players have placed on the club, so now they must rectify it by returning to the Premier League.
As it stands, the club is at risk of being seen as a "yo-yo club", which is arguably worse than their former "feeder club" tag. This kind of reputation cannot be nice for the current crop of players, who are seemingly nonchalant about it, much to the dismay of fans.
Ross Stewart recently spoke out on the current climate at St Marys Stadium. He said: "I don't think a lot has got to change. I think winning a few games will build confidence," according to the Daily Echo.
Those comments came after the recent loss against Fulham in the Premier League. The Saints held the lead for most of the match but then finished the match in the most Southampton way possible, conceding two late goals and dropping all three points.
Looking ahead to next season, Stewart doesn't think Southampton need to change much to come back to the Premier League. In his own words, Stewart summarised: "We've just got to get ourselves (together) and have a good pre-season, get the team bonded, try to start well and get confidence bred — and we'll be fine." He also responded "yes" when asked if the Saints could come straight up.
