Former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat is shortly flying to Istanbul to complete his deal to become a Fenerbahce player.

The Moroccan’s future has once again been a hot topic during the dying embers of the transfer window, just like in 2023.

However this time he will not be joining United as Manuel Ugarte has always been the club’s main priority to bolster the midfield area and he has already passed his medical at Carrington.

It was reported that Amrabat was a backup option for the Red Devils and he preferred to join United but once the Ugarte deal was agreed, this option came off the table.

A plethora of clubs including SSC Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Everton have also been linked to Amrabat but it is Fenerbahce who have eventually got a deal done after having a couple of bids rejected.

Fabrizio Romano posted on X that “Sofyan Amrabat’s private flight to Istanbul is being planned as he will join Fenerbahçe.”

“Diego Simeone called him for Atléti but they’ve only offered a straight loan, rejected by Fiorentina.”

The reliable Italian journalist had already reported yesterday evening that the Turks had agreed a deal with la Viola for a €2m loan fee, €13m obligation to buy and €3m add-ons.

Amarabat has also accepted a four year deal.

It was thought the player might stay at Fiorentina after his coach waxed lyrical over his professionalism and he has also been involved in the Italians start to the season, playing in Fiorentina’s penalty shootout win over Puskás Akadémia last night.

With Amrabat’s transfer being on the cusp of completion, it is highly unlikely the Red Devils will bring in another midfielder this summer.

Nonetheless, the free agent Adrien Rabiot is still without a club and can be signed after tonight’s deadline. With Mason Mount’s injury curse striking again, it could force the Red Devils back into the market.
