Arne Slot has broken down his tactical masterclass that saw Liverpool beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Liverpool continued their perfect start to the Premier League season and are now the only team yet to concede a goal in the competition this season.

Luis Diaz scored the opening two goals in Liverpool's successful visit to Manchester, and Salah assisted both of the Colombian’s goals before claiming the third goal for himself.

There were a number of standout performances but overall Slot’s tactics were too much for Erik ten Hag’s side to handle.

Slot’s tactical breakdown

When speaking to Sky Sports following the game Slot offered some explanation for his side's tactics:

“There is not a specific game plan in the build up from the back. So we always want to press the opponent high, that’s what Jurgen did, that’s what we try to continue.

“Without the ball we always try to press as high as we can and we scored a few goals from a high press”

Slot also explained the change in tactics that he has seen from Manchester United this season:

“Last season they were man marking on the midfield and they had a press with the 7 and 11.

“This season they are more with a 9 and 10 press so they’re more in the 4-4-2 so that’s different of course.

“I see them in my opinion working harder if the ball is being played through them, so they run more.”

Slot vs Ten Hag

Although this was the pair’s first meeting in the Premier League it is the fifth time the two have gone head to head as managers. Slot now boasts three wins to Ten Hag’s two, although none of Slot’s sides have ever managed to have more possession than a side managed by Ten Hag when they’ve matched up.

Liverpool now sit joint top of the Premier League with Manchester City, the only other team yet to drop points, whilst Manchester United slip to 14th with only three points from their first three games.

Slot’s side seem to be developing well and could be in for a great season, whilst Ten Hag’s Manchester United still have a lot of work to do.
