Arne Slot sent a warning to Federico Chiesa after his impressive cameo in the 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

Chiesa came off the bench to score his side’s fourth goal of the game, and his first for Liverpool, as they reached the fourth round, following goals from Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jayden Danns.

The Italian attacker has had limited game time this season due to injury and competition for places.

And while Slot says he is pleased for the 27-year-old, who joined the Premier League leaders from Juventus in the summer, he warned the forward that he still has a long way to go.

Speaking to ITV Sport, he said: “It is definitely a good first step, but as much as I liked the way Accrington Stanley played we have to take into consideration that we’re talking about League Two level.

“It is good to have him back on the pitch. He was a threat, but let’s not get carried away.”

Accrington Stanley, who made the short trip to Anfield, threatened to get back into the game in the second half, including hitting the crossbar.

Slot says he was impressed with the performance of the League Two side but praised his team’s quality.

“Credit to them, I think they showed their style of play, which is a big compliment,” he said.

“They played the same style as they always play. In the end, of course, the difference in quality makes a big difference for us, but compliments to them with how they showed up today.”

16-year-old Rio Ngumoha also became Liverpool’s youngest starter in the FA Cup against Accrington and on his performance, Slot said: “He did well. There were a few moments where the fans could see why we think he’s a talent. He is good in one-v-one situations.

“He showed a bit more in the first half than in the second half. It is nice to get your debut and get the win. It is a special day for him.”
