Arne Slot does not expect Trent Alexander-Arnold to join the England camp in the November international break after he was injured on Saturday.
Liverpool breezed past Aston Villa at Anfield to extend their Premier League lead, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohammed Salah on either side of halftime, but the occasion was dampened as Alexander-Arnold left the pitch after just 25 minutes had been played.
While the extent of the injury is not yet known, Slot believes he could miss the international break.
He said: “I would be surprised if we see him playing for the England national team this week, but we will see.
“It is difficult to say how serious it is, but it is always serious if a player goes out in the first half, not because I didn’t like him but because he asked for it himself, and he didn’t ask for it because he was tired, he asked for it because he felt something.
“It is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is, but let’s wait and see.”
Injuries aside, Liverpool are enjoying a fantastic campaign under Slot, and now sit five points celar at the top of the table. Speaking on recent results, Slot made clear that he and the team understand they must remain focused.
“If you win the games we do, you know you can be ahead but others are able to win so many games, we focus on ourselves, a very good team like Villa is always good.
“We play so many games against strong opponents. These weeks are mostly big if we are competing for something. We have to stay on the top of our game.”
