Simone Inzaghi had exactly the wrong impact with his substitutions in yesterday’s Serie A clash between Bologna and Inter Milan.

This is the view in Italian outlet FCInter1908. They suggest that the changes were what really turned the momentum in the second half of the 1-0 loss.

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi started nearly the same eleven against Bologna as had played against Bayern Munich in midweek.

And even as the match went on, the Nerazzurri coach seemed reluctant to turn to his bench.

It was only a few minutes after the hour mark that Inzaghi decided to replace Carlos Augusto with Federico Dimarco.

Then, striker Mehdi Taremi came on shortly afterwards.

Late in the match, Inzaghi replaced Lautaro Martinez with Carlos Augusto, and Matteo Darmian with Yann Bisseck.

However, in the view of FCIN1908, these substitutions did not help the team.

It was particularly the removal of the two wingbacks that caused problems for Inter late in the match.

Federico Dimarco represented an attacking substitution. However, the Italian international struggled defensively, switching off for Bologna’s late winner.

Meanwhile, Yann Bisseck was meant to see out the match. The German theoretically had the pace to keep up with Bologna substitute Nicolo Cambiaghi.

However, it was Bisseck who got his header wrong in the box on Bologna’s stoppage time goal.
