Simon Rusk conveyed that he didn't properly get to enjoy Lesley Ugochukwu's equaliser unfold and will happily watch the replay.
Remember how ahead of the West Ham game, Simon Rusk casually let Everton slip under the radar of winnable games left? Well, back then, some saw that as negligence, now we know why the boss did so.
Maybe Rusk knew that he could steer Southampton clear of the lowest points tally much before the penultimate matchday against Everton.
But credit to the players too, for how remarkably the Saints players have backed their gaffer's words against West Ham. This time, despite having almost fumbled in their usual way, conceding early in the second half, Southampton fought back well to win a late point at the London Stadium.
Thankfully, Saints snatched a point, but the club’s weird managerial streak lived on continued, as Simon Rusk finished the fixture with regret.
No, no, it wasn't for the matchday's result at all, but for how he missed that lovely Lesley Ugochukwu's equalizing volley.
Interestingly, in an effort to find the leveller, Rusk must've been busy strategizing for an upcoming substitute and phew, he missed the goal that would've brought every Saints fan off their seat.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Rusk admitted his strange good regret, saying: "I've not seen the finish back yet, but I'm told it's a good finish, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it. I'm really pleased for him and the team as well."
Well, fair play, goals have been rare for Southampton this season, even under Rusk. But when they’ve come, they’ve been absolute stunners in the interim's charge.
Firstly, it was a thunderous Cameron Archer finish in the EFL Cup against Liverpool. Now, Ugochukwu has delivered a scorcher that might just be one of the goals of the season.
