One of the stranger situations to emerge in the January transfer window is the one that surrounds Dani Olmo. La Liga has once again rejected Barcelona’s recent attempt to register the player. That does create a situation where Olmo could be available to sign this month. But is that a move Manchester City should consider? There are a lot of moving parts to this story and deciphering them all is no easy task.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported for GIVEMESPORT that despite the ongoing saga surrounding Dani Olmo’s registration he wants to remain at Barcelona. Romano relays quotes from Olmo’s agent, Andy Bara, where he states that the Spanish international has no interest in leaving Barcelona this month. Those quotes in Romano’s report suggest that there is little chance of Olmo leaving Barcelona this month. That is despite the situation he is currently faced with in regards to his La Liga registration.

Should Manchester City take advantage of Barcelona’s misfortune or focus on other targets?

The entire situation surrounding Dani Olmo is currently extremely murky. Olmo’s agent has said there is little chance of Olmo leaving Barcelona. But despite this a new report has emerged that indicates that Manchester City have an interest in signing the Spanish international.

Wayne Veysey has reported for Football Insider that Manchester City are accelerating their interest in Dani Olmo. Furthermore, Veysey reports that City sees Olmo as a potential Kevin De Bruyne replacement. Lastly, Veysey adds that the chances of Dani Olmo leaving Barcelona this month are growing.

But here is the million-dollar question: Should Manchester City move for Dani Olmo this month? Based on all of the available information it is hard to gauge whether or not Olmo would contemplate leaving Barcelona this month. Based on his agent’s comments, there is little chance of that happening right now. But if Barcelona’s attempts to register the player continue to fail Olmo may have a decision to make.

From a Manchester City point of view, Olmo would add what they desperately need. He is a proven performer and what he’d bring to the final third would immediately aid Manchester City’s cause. But the question is this would City want to add a player whose heart really isn’t in a move to another club? That is a move that could be fraught with issues. If Olmo wants to move to the Etihad then it’s a no-brainer. But if he doesn’t it’s perhaps a move to avoid. But it all depends on what happens with Olmo’s La Liga registration.

Manchester City could benefit from Barcelona’s misfortune. Signing Dani Olmo would massively improve City’s squad. But there are a lot variables that surround the situation currently. For now it is a story to watch. But until there is a definitive answer on Olmo’s availability and future plans perhaps City should focus on other targets for the time being.
