In a recent update from Mundo Deportivo, it has been reported that Barcelona players have seen a significant shift in their training approach under the guidance of new head coach Hansi Flick.

In fact, the intensity of the physical training sessions has increased so much that many players no longer feel the need for a physiotherapist or a personal trainer at home. Some have even chosen to part ways with their personal trainers entirely.

It is no secret that one of the most notable changes with Flick’s arrival is his focus on physical preparation. Unlike the previous coaching style, which involved a more horizontal passing game, Flick has introduced a more direct approach to football.

Changes in the preparation

This tactical shift places a strong emphasis on the physical fitness of the players, which Flick believes is crucial for the team’s success.

It is said that before he was appointed as the replacement for Xavi, both Joan Laporta and Deco recognized that the team’s physical preparation was lacking.

To address this, they brought in Julio Tous, a well-respected expert in physical training, to oversee the players’ conditioning. As a result, the training regimen now includes high-intensity workouts, both on the field and in the gym.

Things have changed

Previously, it was common practice for Barcelona players to rely on personal physiotherapists and physical trainers regardless of who was coaching the team.

However, under Flick, the intensity of the training has been ramped up to such a degree that players feel sufficiently challenged during team sessions, making additional training at home unnecessary.

As a result, there have already been instances where players have decided to let go of their personal trainers, as they believe that the motivation and support provided by Flick during training sessions are more than enough to meet their physical needs.
