Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles is facing a spell on the sidelines in major injury blow.
Sheffield Wednesday fans will be covering their eyes as news has broken from the club that goalkeeper Pierce Charles is facing a spell on the sidelines following scans on a shoulder injury.
It goes from bad to worse for Wednesday fans, who have not only had to deal with all the off-field issues regarding the ownership of their club this season, but have now been dealt a major injury blow to star goalkeeper Charles.
The six-time capped Northern Irish international has started both Championship games so far for Wednesday, which have culminated in defeats to Leicester City and Stoke City, as well as helping the Owls to victory over Bolton Wanderers in the League Cup via penalties.
Wednesday's pre-season was sub-par to say the least, having canceled their friendly with Burnley amid turmoil off the pitch, meaning they headed into their season opener with Leicester severely under-prepared.
As it transpired, both Nathaniel Chalobah and Yan Valery limped off in their 2-1 defeat to the Foxes, leaving an already depleted squad down to the bare bones.
Their tie against Bolton contained a mix of squad and youth players, with numerous members of the starting eleven not only making their Owls debuts, but their first senior ones as well.
Now with Charles injured and no other senior keeper in the ranks, Wednesday fans have taken to social media to react to the news.
With news of Charles' injury hitting social media, Wednesday fans have reacted to the setback, which means they are now without a senior keeper heading into the Wrexham game at the weekend.
It's safe to say Wednesday fans are concerned about their current predicament, and understandably so.
Next up for them is an away trip to free-spending Wrexham, who are somewhat the antithesis of Wednesday right now, having spent multi-million-pound fees on the likes of Nathan Broadhead, Lewis O'Brien and Kieffer Moore, to name a few.
Charles' injury leaves the club without any other senior keeper in the squad, which is not ideal to say the least.
Wednesday are able to sign players again after the embargo set on the club was lifted, though no new incomings a set to arrive before Saturday's trip to North Wales.
19-year-old Logan Stretch, who has never made a senior appearance before, having only ever played for the club's Under-18s, looks set to be the Owls' starting keeper at the weekend.
Stretch has appeared on the bench in each of the Owls' three fixtures so far this season and looks the likely candidate to replace Charles in the immediate future, though a new keeper is likely to be high on their shortlist before the end of the window.
