It has been reported by The Star that the forward is attracting interest from the Red Dragons this January.

Smith has been left out of the matchday squad by the Owls in recent fixtures against Leeds United and Coventry City.

This has only further fueled talk of an exit before the 3 February deadline for the 33-year-old.

Rohl has issued a brief response to the situation surrounding Smith’s future at Sheffield Wednesday, refusing to give away too much information.

He has indicated that it is something he wants to keep between the two of them, with uncertainty over his future growing with interest from Wrexham.

“Let's see,” said Rohl, via The Star.

“What is important is that Michael and I know the situation.

“And this is enough.”

Smith has made 25 appearances in the Championship so far this season, but only nine of those have come as a starter.

The veteran forward has contributed five goals and four assists, with the team fighting for a play-off place.

Smith has been a regular presence in the team in his three seasons at Hillsborough, but his contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday league position

Sheffield Wednesday are currently 10th in the Championship table, four points adrift of a top six position.

The 3-0 loss to Leeds United on Sunday means that the Owls have won just one of their last five in the league.

However, despite the poor run of form, the team have kept in touch with the play-off battle after 27 games.

Next up for Rohl’s side is a home clash against Bristol City on Wednesday evening in a 7.45pm kick-off.

Rohl giving nothing away on Smith’s future

Smith has been a valuable asset to Sheffield Wednesday this season, so it would be a surprise if he was sold unless a decent fee arrived.

While losing him for nothing in the summer would be a bad financial move, he could yet still have a role to play in their top six chase.

Of course, it also does depend on how funds will be raised for potential incomings and perhaps a sale here is the best way to do that.

Given the complicated relationship between the owner Dejphon Chansiri and Rohl, any resolution on Smith’s future will likely revolve around upcoming talks between the pair.
