Manchester City have formally secured the signing of rising Sheffield Wednesday striker, Caelan Cadamarteri as per a club statement.
Cadamarteri, who turns 16 later this year, has been one of the brightest attacking prospects outside of the Premier League and had been on the radar of top-flight clubs for some time.
His prolific campaign at youth level, combined with standout moments on the international stage with Scotland’s youth teams, made him a prime target for elite-level academies across England.
Manchester City have acted swiftly to finalise the deal amid a difficult financial climate at Hillsborough. Sheffield Wednesday are currently operating under a series of financial restrictions and transfer embargoes, while chairman Dejphon Chansiri is exploring a full sale of the club.
Those off-pitch challenges have only accelerated the need to cash in on their most valuable young talents. Local reports from Yorkshire had previously revealed that a deal worth in the region of £1.5 million was nearing completion.
While the fee remains officially undisclosed, Manchester City have now agreed to a structured package – likely to include performance-related bonuses – given Cadamarteri’s age and long-term development potential.
A statement from Hillsborough this week read: “Owls academy product Caelan Cadamarteri has completed his transfer to Premier League giants Manchester City. The teenager moves to the Etihad Stadium for an undisclosed fee.
“Cadamarteri finished last season as Wednesday’s Under-18 Professional Development League top scorer with 24 goals as the team finished second in the division to secure a play-off spot. The Scotland Under-16 forward also registered three strikes on the international stage.
“Sheffield Wednesday wish the very best to Caelan as he embarks on the next step of his fledgling career.”
Cadamarteri will initially be integrated into City’s academy system, likely joining up with the Elite Development Squad (EDS) setup for pre-season, with the possibility of sporadically featuring in upcoming Premier League 2 fixtures or domestic youth competitions.
Given his standout campaign last time around, Manchester City staff are expected to keep a close eye on his development path this year, including potential UEFA Youth League involvement.
The move continues Manchester City’s broader strategy of snapping up elite teenage prospects from across the UK and Europe, following the likes of Divine Mukasa from West Ham and the more recent additions of Harrison Miles and Tyresse Noubissie in recent years.
With youth pathways increasingly scrutinised, Manchester City are building a core of players with the technical and physical profile to either break into the first-team in future seasons or develop value within the wider City Football Group model.
For Cadamarteri, the opportunity to grow in one of the world’s most renowned development environments – under the coaching umbrella that has recently graduated names like Oscar Bobb and Jahmai Simpson-Pusey – marks a significant step in his footballing journey.
