Nottingham Forest target Jose Angel Carmona is set to stay at Sevilla.
According to the Sunday Mirror, Forest agreed a deal worth £9.55 million with the La Liga club, but the 23-year-old rejected the move.
They earlier looked at Rico Lewis, but he is close to signing a new contract with Manchester City.
Forest are keen to bolster their full-back options, with Neco Williams and Ola Aina currently their only senior cover for those roles.
Carmona, who mainly plays at right-back but can also operate in central defence, started 35 La Liga matches last season.
He has also played in the Champions League and Europa League with Sevilla and previously had loan spells with Elche and Getafe.
But he is not interested in joining Forest, which means they could look to bring back Matty Cash from Aston Villa.
Forest’s summer transfer window began with a setback as they lost winger Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United.
But they quickly moved to reinforce their attack, with Dan Ndoye, Omari Hutchinson, James McAtee and Arnaud Kalimuendo all joining the club.
Forest started the new campaign with an excellent 3-1 triumph over Brentford last weekend, with Chris Wood (2) and Ndoye on the scoresheet.
They will lock horns with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday.
