Serie A club and Newcastle United have held talks on Kieran Trippier transfer – Report | OneFootball

It has now been reported that Newcastle United have held talks with a Serie A club, regarding Kieran Trippier.

Italian media reporting that AC Milan want to sign the former England defender.

Planet Milan claim that Kieran Trippier is wanted, due to Davide Calabria, who will shortly be out of contract, is set to leave AC Milan.

Trippier was the first and arguably key Eddie Howe signing, back in January 2022.

The full-back showing great form and leadership, as well as for sure, helping to encourage other new signings to join Newcastle United.

Kieran Trippier started all 38 Premier League matches in 2022/23, as United finished fourth and only conceded 33 PL goals, Man City the only defence to match NUFC.

Last season (2023/24), Trippier had injury issues but still featured in 28 Premier League games, starting 26 of them.

However, this season has seen Kieran Trippier available for nine Premier League matchday squad but only start three of those nine, with Tino Livramento seemingly seen as first choice now.

The 34 year old recently returned from injury and was a late sub against West Ham, then an unused sub at Palace last weekend.

Missing from the matchday squad against Liverpool, Eddie Howe after the 3-3 draw said it was ‘illness’ that saw Kieran Trippier missing.

Recently, Eddie Howe was asked about Kieran Trippier’s injury absence and what he gives the team/squad when available:

“We have certainly missed his attacking attributes and his range, what he brings.

“He is improving physically [after recovering from injury].

“He hasn’t played consistently now for quite a long time, so getting him back in that rhythm, where he can feel 100 percent fit, will take a little bit of time.

“But he is certainly closer than he was and touch wood, he has solved the hamstring problem that he had.”

In January 2023, Newcastle United turned down three offers for Kieran Trippier from Bayern Munich, with their final bid of a reported £13m knocked back and the Bundesliga club giving up.

With Tino Livramento now having made such rapid progress and himself becoming a full England international, nobody would be surprised if Kieran Trippier left in January (2025).

How much substance, if any, there is to these AC Milan claims, remains to be seen. However, if there is to be any major incoming Newcastle United transfer activity next month, it would almost certainly involve as well one or more players who aren’t first eleven regulars, heading out.

Across the last two seasons (2022/23 and 2023/24), Kieran Trippier started 64 Premier League matches and produced a remarkable 17 PL assists, as well as scoring two PL goals.
