Mateo Retegui marked his comeback with a decisive equaliser to cancel out the Pierre Kalulu goal, as Atalanta held Juventus to another stalemate in this end-to-end thriller.
La Dea were nine points clear of the Old Lady going into this rescheduled Week 19 fixture, moved so both sides could lose their Supercoppa Italiana semi-finals in Riyadh. Mateo Retegui was back on the bench after several weeks out, but Odilon Kossounou, Juan Cuadrado and Gianluca Scamacca missed out, while Berat Djimsiti played despite needing 10 stitches for a head wound at the weekend. Dusan Vlahovic, Francisco Conceicao, Arek Milik, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal didn’t make the trip, so Nico Gonzalez was a centre-forward, but Manuel Locatelli returned from suspension. Coach Thiago Motta was in the stands after a red card in the Derby della Mole.
Teun Koopmeiners was jeered loudly every time he was on the ball, as this was his first return to Bergamo since practically forcing through a summer transfer, especially when firing wide after turning Marten de Roon.
Ademola Lookman stung Michele Di Gregorio’s gloves from the edge of the area and Khephren Thuram twice threw himself in the path of Lookman and Mario Pasalic efforts.
Nico Gonzalez curled inches wide after a Kenan Yildiz attempt was charged down and in stoppages Marco Carnesecchi was at full stretch to flap away a Yildiz cross-shot that went beyond Koopmeiners.
After the restart, the Yildiz snapshot was deflected inches wide off Ederson, then there was chaos on the resulting corner. Pierre Kalulu’s header bounced off the inside of the far post and Carnesecchi clawed it off the line with millimetres to spare, but Atalanta went on the counter with Mario Pasalic incredibly firing wide with only the ‘keeper to beat.

Juventus did take the lead soon after, as Weston McKennie ran onto the long ball and weighted the pass perfectly to send Kalulu clear, beating the on-rushing Carnesecchi at the near post.
Atalanta fought back, Di Gregorio getting down to beat away the Ederson effort and Koopmeiners clearing the Lookman finish practically off the line, both set up by substitute Lazar Samardzic.
Carnesecchi also parried the McKennie shot with difficulty and Ederson’s scorcher skimmed the crossbar, while Federico Gatti got in the way of Lookman’s angled drive.
Mateo Retegui came on for his first appearance of 2025 and immediately made the difference with the equaliser. Raoul Bellanova nodded a Marten de Roon cross into the ground and Retegui anticipated Nicolò Savona for the diving header from six yards.
Carnesecchi fingertipped the Locatelli header away from an Andrea Cambiaso cross, but moments later Di Gregorio used his legs to deny Nicolò Zaniolo one-on-one.
It remained wide open and end to end, the Kenan Yildiz angled drive skimming the far post in added time.
