FC Barcelona under Hansi Flick established themselves as one of the best teams in Europe, winning the domestic treble and also making to the semi-finals of the Champions League where they lost out to Inter Milan.
En route to their domestic treble, Barcelona beat Real Madrid four times in official competitions, maintaining a perfect record in this season’s El Clásicos. Some of those performances were absolutely incredible and nailed down their status as the best team in Spain.
Los Blancos, not a club used to such humiliation, decided to let go of Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season and brought in a new manager, Xabi Alonso. The Spanish tactician is coming to Madrid after a couple of good seasons at Bayer Leverkusen.

Real Madrid played their first game under Alonso against Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup, and it ended in a 1-1 draw. The Spanish team tried to keep more possession than they did under Ancelotti, but it is too early to see many changes.
Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets was asked recently about the appointment of his former teammate as the new Real Madrid boss, and as quoted by AS, here is what he had to say:
“Xabi loved football, he spoke very well, he knew everything that was happening in every match, and he showed early signs of becoming a coach. Then he made the transition, and he’s doing very well so far—at Bayer, at Real. I hope things go well for him personally, but of course, I want another team to win.”
Busquets himself was and continues to be acknowledged as one of the smartest brains playing football, and back during his playing days, Xabi Alonso was a similar player. There is no doubt that the 36-year-old will make an excellent manager in the future.
The Inter Miami midfield star’s words for Xabi Alonso very clearly underline his admiration for his former teammate while also clearly showing his love for Barcelona. Busquets is as loyal as they come, and this would come as no surprise to any Cules.
It remains to be seen how Xabi Alonso fares at Real Madrid. Whatever he throws at Barcelona, Hansi Flick will be sure to come up with a strong response, and this only makes the next few El Clásicos much more promising on paper.
