According to Sky Germany, Sebastian Kehl could be offered a new deal in order to remain at Borussia Dortmund.
It is understood that Kehl’s deal at BvB expires in the summer, and as previously reported, there was great uncertainty surrounding whether he would still be at the Westfalenstadion heading into next season.
As previously reported, the sporting director has lost a significant amount of support behind the scenes, while on a personal level, Kehl has felt frustrated about some of the decisions made by the CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke.
Nevertheless, at the club’s general meeting, Lars Ricken, Dortmund’s managing director, explained that he hopes to continue working with Kehl in the future:
“It is my wish to continue on this path with you. My greatest wish is to develop something, to build something with people who identify 100 per cent with BVB.”
It is believed that while this statement was clearly aimed at Kehl, Ricken was also talking about BvB’s current head coach Nuri Şahin, who has faced significant scrutiny this season.
Despite this, Kehl may believe that his future lies elsewhere.
The 44-year-old may wish to relieve himself of the problems that continue to arise at the Westfalenstadion and may look to pursue a new adventure, having previously been linked with the sporting director role at Hamburger SV.
