Sassuolo confirm ‘talking to’ Vranckx and ‘interested’ in free agent Matic | OneFootball

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali confirms they are ‘talking to’ Aster Vranckx ad Wolfsburg, while they are also ‘interested’ in Nemanja Matic and Samuele Birindelli.

The Neroverdi won the Serie B trophy last season, earning direct promotion back into the top flight after just one year away, and now hope to hold on to that status.

This means investing in reinforcements and that includes players who already have some Serie A experience.

Sassuolo targeting Vranckx and Matic for Serie A return

It is reported they have struck a deal with Wolfsburg for former Milan defender Vranckx, who would arrive on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

“Nothing has been completed yet, but we are talking to both Vranckx and his club,” Carnevali told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are interested in the player, just as we are in others for his role. At the moment, I’m sorry to say, we have not done any deal yet.”

There are also suggestions that Sassuolo will bring veteran Matic back to Serie A after his contract with Olympique Lyonnais was terminated early.

The 37-year-old has so much experience with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Roma, and is available as a free agent.

“We are evaluating some situations, I won’t deny that we are interested in Vranckx and Matic, but in the transfer market you don’t want to say anything until the documents are signed. We have many opportunities, we’ll see what happens.”

Another candidate for Sassuolo is believed to be Monza right-back Birindelli, who is down to the final months of his contract.

“He could be interesting, certainly,” confessed Carnevali.

“Sassuolo have already signed six players, but we don’t want to stop here, because we need reinforcements. It is complicated further by having the transfer deadline after two rounds of the new season, considering most signings are completed in the last few days.”
