A 33% win record as Rangers manager is truly dire. To have won just two matches of six since taking over is utterly honking. Consequently, the Russell Martin backers who mocked Ibrox Noise mentioning friendlies are gone. Russell Martin’s terrible Rangers record is worsening.
The record in friendlies actually equals his competitive standing. In fact, it’s 33% again, with 2 wins of 6 in preseason.
It’s the same record as Barry Ferguson, interim coach, had, and the boy frankly didn’t have a clue about management.
True Ranger, dire manager. Don’t get us wrong, Ibrox Noise would be no better. However, like any pundit, we know (or think we know) what DOESN’T make a Rangers manager.
And Russell Martin is the adroit suggestion of the worst kind of manager.
At present, he is riding an astonishing amount of luck in the Champions League, aided and abetted by a Jack Butland who’s picked a hell of time to rediscover his old form.
That luck has seen some of the most painful stats in Rangers’ entire history. As Scotland’s coefficient Twitter put it:
“Rangers have now faced 77 shots in four European matches. 101 shots have been faced in six matches under Russell Martin including Motherwell and Dundee, it’s now. 29 on target. Bonus points for reaching the Champions League are huge, but I would fear for this side in the UCL phase.”
So, that’s 77 shots against in Europe, and 101 in total this season. It’s 29 on target in 6 matches.
It’s a shocking, abysmal record. Therefore, the fact that ‘only’ 44% of fans would chase Martin out by his coat tails tells a lot for what Ibrox supporters are often willing to tolerate.
Rangers have made the worst start in SPL history under any manager with a 33% win ratio, and this run has already put the league out of reach. Russell Martin’s terrible Rangers record is intense.
Now, we already have to hope Celtic drop 5 more points than us from here on in to have a chance of pushing for the title.
That’s probably not happening. Moreover, we have to trust our team isn’t going to drop more, and that’s a tad unlikely.
Martin is breaking every bad record there is. Nevertheless, here he is in the Champions League playoffs with blind damn luck giving him every chance of getting there.
Ultimately, football really is a funny old game.
