Rúben Amorim Lands in the Manager Hot Seat

I can’t believe I’m writing this only two weeks into the 2025-26 campaign, but we already have a handful of gaffers who are facing the axe. Two, in fact, who might not make it to September!

For all the talk of his “project”, the fact is Rúben Amorim has done practically nothing to improve Manchester United. In fact, he’s the worst manager the club has ever had statistically.

Last season there were the usual excuses: he inherited the players, it takes time to make change, etc. But after spending $285M, Amorim has very little runway left. His plane had best start ascending or he risks crashing and burning.

All the above was written BEFORE Manchester United lost to fourth division side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. That alone should be a sackable offense. Then there was his behavior during the penalty shootout, where he hid in the dugout and didn’t watch the kicks. Simply awful.

Graham Potter

Potter’s predecessor, Julen Lopetegui, lasted all of 20 league games before being sacked. Potter hit the 20 league mark last week, and has one fewer win. Even worse than losing is HOW they’re losing. West Ham are capitulating bereft of anything resembling energy or pride. At least Jarrod Bowen’s outburst at angry fans during yesterday’s Carabao Cup loss to Wolverhampton showed something, even if it did cross a line.

Nuno Espírito Santo

Note that the statistics above have zero bearing on Nuno’s survival. He is embroiled in a battle with owner Evangelos Marinakis over transfer spending (and probably other things). Nuno is notoriously stubborn, Marinakis isn’t noted for his lenient nature, and it’s pretty obvious who will be the loser in this contest. The fact Nuno took Forest from 17th to 7th (and into the Europa League) will mean diddly squat without the owner’s backing.

Daniel Farke

I don’t think Farke is in real danger. He led the team to the Championship trophy last year, and look at that goal differential. Woof. But given his track record at Norwich, where he was (twice) unable to keep them in the Premier League after promotion, his clock has a short timer.
