Wayne Rooney has implored Manchester United to throw their names into the mix of Marc Guehi’s suitors this summer.

The sought-after Crystal Palace stalwart will have put any transfer speculation at the back of his mind as he soaks up the emphatic celebrations of the Eagles’ FA Cup triumph.

Yet, there will come a time when he and Oliver Glasner have to broach the topic again, with numerous clubs poised to submit offers in the coming weeks.

Who’s in the race for Marc Guehi this year?

As per The Sun, Guehi is being targeted by some of the division’s top dogs in the form of Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United; the latter are thought to be leading the race.

Eddie Howe’s side saw three separate offers rebuffed for Guehi last year, with the final £60 million proposal still not enough to force Palace chiefs’ hands into sanctioning his exit.

In the winter transfer window, Spurs tested the Eagles’ resolve with a £70m bid, which was again declined. The South London outfit have always stood firm in their £75-80m valuation of the 23-capped England international.

Guehi has 13 months remaining on current Palace contract

However, that may have to change when Guehi enters the final 12 months of his contract in June.

The prospect of losing such an invaluable star for nothing will be unthinkable for Glasner and Co., although interested clubs may be unwilling to fork out the big bucks if they know he’ll eventually become a free agent.

Guehi, 24, has opted against extending his stay at Selhurst Park beyond 2026 despite having numerous offers on the table.

United have previously been credited with Guehi interest

It remains to be seen if United would revive their interest in the centre-half, having been heavily linked with him on numerous occasions prior to their acquisitions of Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.

The impending departures of senior duo Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans next month will certainly have INEOS’ key decision-makers scouring the market for defensive reinforcements.

When reeling off potential signings he’d like to see his former club make this summer, Rooney told Amazon Prime Sport: “It would be difficult but I’d try and sign Guehi from Crystal Palace as a centre-back.

“I think he would have a really good impact on the club.”
