What are Chelsea’s plans for the summer? It’s hard to say, given how often the guys upstairs make moves which are totally mystifying to us mortals on the ground trying to figure out what the plan is.
But we do know a few things from insiders with good sources – and there are none better than Fabrizio Romano. He has the ear of every sporting director and agent in the game, and if he says something, we tend to believe it (while always bearing in mind the potential origins and motivations of any story).
A week ago the transfer window had closed, and one of Romano’s headlines in his “deadline day secrets” Youtube video was the failed move for Alejandro Garnacho we heard quite a lot about during January.
This wasn’t just paper talk, by all accounts. The Blues wanted a deal done for the Man U winger, and were considering a move all the way up to the deadline, according to Romano:
“Chelsea considered Alejandro Garnacho [on deadline day] but decided to keep the current squad and make investments into the attack in the summer window,” he says in the video.

Whether or not we go for Garnacho, this information surely proves that yet another left winger is on our agenda.
That’s of course because Mykhailo Mudryk is facing a long ban for doping, and because Joao Felix (who was used out on the left a few times) has already gone on loan to AC Milan, and is already flirting with them about a permanent move.
Players like Estevao Willian are coming, but perhaps the expectation is that he won’t be ready for much first team action in his first season.
Garnacho or not, it looks certain Chelsea buy another wide attacker this summer.
