The Renato Veiga transfer rumour has turned into a saga in just a matter of days, and the latest development is an odd one.
There were only faint whispers about the defender wanting to leave a week ago, with Wolves apparently interested. But since then things have developed quickly, and we’ve just had an evening update from Fabrizio Romano.
The latest wave of interest saw various teams pushing to sign the former Sporting CP defender, and Chelsea starting to listen to offers – with a juicy £29m asking price in mind.
The latest – and most concrete – interest game from Borussia Dortmund. They were reported as recently as this morning as being in talks with Chelsea about the terms of a deal.

Now Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the defender is turning down permanent moves away from Chelsea, instead preferring a loan spell somewhere.
We’re not sure how Chelsea will feel about that. Surely they’d like to either cash in or keep him around to help the team? Sending him out on loan could improve his value a bit, but that doesn’t really help them as immediately as the other two options.

As for Veiga, we’re very puzzled about his motivations here. He’s had tons of appearances so far since coming to Chelsea – probably more than we expected. He was signed basically out of obscurity and has become our second choice left back right off th ebat
Is his career really better served by a 6 month loan to Dortmund or a similar team? He’s already had a bit of a funny patchwork of moves already, and this would just add to the sense that, basically, he’s a bit of an odd bloke.
If he insists he doesn’t want to leave on a permanent deal, why is he so keen on a loan move?
