Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on one Manchester United target will be music to the ears of INEOS’ transfer chiefs.
The reporter has confirmed that Xavi Simons, who’s long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, is ‘ready to leave’ RB Leipzig at the end of the season — his ‘decision has been made’.
After two years with the German outfit (mostly on loan), Simons is keen to showcase his abilities in a new environment, with ‘top Premier League clubs’ and Bayern Munich all keeping tabs on his situation.

It remains to be seen if United will act on their interest following the revelation. Any potential pursuit of the 22-year-old will undoubtedly be strengthened if they’re able to secure a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League next Wednesday; he made a total of 13 appearances in the competition with Leipzig.
Simons, formerly of PSV Eindhoven, spent nine years working his way through Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy before switching to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. He is valued in the region of £68 million, although Leipzig may be forced to lower their demands since the player is seemingly set on a summer departure.
Leipzig only officially registered Simons on their books in January, when they decided to make his loan transfer a permanent one by agreeing a record £43.8m fee while pledging a whopping £21m in add-ons.
The ‘exceptional’ Dutch international put pen to paper on a contract through to 2027, yet he is now poised to cut ties prematurely.
Despite missing two months of the season through an ankle injury, Simons has still recorded some pretty impressive numbers overall, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further eight in 32 appearances across all competitions.
His career-best goalscoring term came with PSV in 2022/2023; he notched 22 goals and assisted 11 in 48 matches.
